It's a little after six o'clock in the evening. The inspiring 'chai yo!' (cheers!) at the end of the Thai national anthem seems to be a signal to the health-conscious crowds gathered around a raised platform behind the statue of King Rama VI. People of all ages are stretching as the dance instructor takes to the stage. As soon as the music starts to fill the atmosphere of Lumpini Park, the crowd begins to move synchronously to the rhythm...Meanwhile, at the BTS walkway adjoining MBK to Siam Square, a group of B-boys in baggy clothing and excessive accessories are spinning on their heads to the latest 50 Cent. Simultaneously, on the corner of Ratchaprasong junction not very far away, lavishly dressed Thai classical dancers are performing 'ram kae bon' (the dance performed by worshippers to reward the deity for granting their wishes) at the incense-infused Erawan Shrine before the image of the four-faced Lord Brahma.
